KeyStage 3: Year 7, 8 & 9

Students spend the first year of Design & Technology learning the basic skills and knowledge that the subject requires. This involves how to work safely within a technology workshop. It also involves learning a large number of tools names with an understanding of what they are used for and how to handle them.

Students spend the second year of Design & Technology building on the skills and knowledge they gained in the previous year. This involves gaining a greater understanding of materials and electronics. They are also expected to produce creative designs which take into account other peoples needs and requirements.

Within year 9 students cover a number of projects which relate to the technology options. This strengthens the students understanding of options and allows them to make informed choices. Students will be expected to use knowledge gained over the last two years to produce imaginative projects that are designed for clients.
