VOCATIONAL GCSE IN LEISURE & TOURISM
This is a DOUBLE AWARD course leading to 2 A*-G grades at GCSE level at the end of two years.

  • It involves a mixture of theory and practical work, learning about the working of the Leisure, Recreation, Travel & Tourism industry.
  • The course requires you to develop your personal, social and organisational skills in approaching the 3 units of work.
  • It will be useful for those people who might be interested in a job or further study in these areas and can be taken by people of all abilities who are not afraid of working hard.
  • Part of the course will be delivered by staff from Middlesbrough College.
  • Colleges and employers see vocational based courses like this one as being useful.
  • Many students from Ormesby have gone on to follow advanced courses at
    Middlesbrough College taking Leisure & Tourism.
  • Some Ormesby School students have been able to use their qualification as a way of getting into the Travel & Tourism industry.

The Course is divided into 3 Units:
Unit 1: Investigating Leisure & Tourism - assessed by exam.
Unit 2: Marketing in Leisure & Tourism - assessed by coursework.
Unit 3: Customer Service - assessed by coursework & practical experience.

Activities on the Course include:

  • Planning for and visiting local leisure & tourism facilities.
  • Developing personal, social and organisational skills.
  • Researching into leisure & tourism operations.
  • Using ICT to present research findings.
  • Learning how the industry works and taking an exam about it.
