Home Computer Links
We recommend that you download and install the following applications on your home PC if you do not already have anti-virus or malware protection. This will help to ensure that your PC is kept clean and safe from malicious software.
- AVG - Anti-virus Guard
This is a free anti-virus program that we advise you use if you do not have any other anti-virus application installed, e.g. Norton. It will update regularly and provides sufficient anti-virus coverage without the need to pay for further support.
- Ad-Aware 2008 Free Edition
Ad-Aware scans your computer for any malicious files you may have picked up whilst browsing the Internet. Ad-Aware SE easily can clean your system, allowing you to maintain a higher degree of privacy while you surf the Web. We suggest you have this installed on any home use PC equipment, scanning and updating regularly.
- SpyBot Search & Destroy
Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.
