Construction moves on at Ormesby and Priory Woods

The steelwork programme is now well underway at the new Ormesby and Priory Woods Schools. The 12 week programme will involve over 600 tonnes of steel being lifted into place to form the structure of the new school.

Building ConstructionThe schools are being built by Shepherd Construction, Willmott Dixon’s partner in Middlesbrough BSF. Shepherd Construction has chosen to use a new method of installing the lift shafts in the new school. Each part of the lift shaft is made in a factory and delivered to site. The sections are then lifted into position by a crane. This method is much quicker than traditional methods so the team are erecting at least one shaft per day. The method means there is no need for scaffolding so it is much safer and results in a higher standard of finish.
